NabeWise helps you discover your perfect neighborhood.

Ann’s background in subscription-based content, along with her having moved 35 times (really!), gave her the initial inspiration for NabeWise. Previously, Ann led Research at Glocap, and was a marketing consultant for Flavorpill.com. Before that, she was in Business Development at Corporate Executive Board. In her spare time, Ann enjoys spinach-grapefruit smoothies, playing with her Jack Russell — Milton, and predicting people’s Myers Briggs type.

Ann has lived in Ann Arbor, Boston, DC, Miami, LA, Hoboken, and she now lives in Prospect Heights. She spends time in the Flatiron (NabeWise HQ), Union Square and Nolita, and loves exploring new places.

Ben

Ben Hughes

Cofounder, Director of Technology

Ben Hughes often gets lost for weeks in the Appalachian Mountains, thinking only in code and eating only poisonous berries. After resurfacing, thousands of lines of Ruby and Erlang mysteriously appear in source control. Prior to NabeWise, Ben worked at NASA and led Development at BigThink where he worked with Andy. Now Ben is most passionate about issues involving performance and system architecture at NabeWise. He is active on GitHub and Twitter.

Ben is particularly fond of Greenpoint and Williamsburg in Brooklyn.

Kangaroos have few natural predators, but Andy Kramolisch (an American) is the primary one. Following the dawn of the internet though, Andy realized it was his duty to give up the outback hunt and devote himself to technology. Prior to NabeWise, Andy worked at NASA and BigThink with Ben. Now as the Minister of Hope and Coding at NabeWise, Andy keeps the bleeding edge version of NabeWise technologically sophisticated and makes the front end snappy and easy to use.

New York's Park Slope and Washington DC’s Dupont Circle are among Andy’s most-loved nabes.

Andrea is an interaction, interface, and visual designer who has been creating digital products for over 10 years. She has designed for clients such as, the Webby Awards, Estee Lauder, Slant Six Games, Scribd, Ideeli, and AOL. Andrea is a local leader for the New York chapter of the Interaction Design Association, co-organizer of the New York branch of the Product Design Guild, and a member of the HTML working group. Andrea is passionate about creating compelling and meaningful experiences at the intersection of design and technology and is also interested in transmedia, gaming, and beer. Oh, and please meet her former pet duck, Mal who has retired to a farm in Japan.

Andrea was born in Michigan and has lived in Chapel Hill, New Orleans, Los Angeles, Boulder, Mexico, Japan, and Canada. She recently relocated to New York and is living in Murray Hill, though she enjoys spending time in Brooklyn whenever she can.

Diana

Diana Sonis

Director of Marketing

After 20 years of personally exploring NYC neighborhoods, Diana is the true New Yorker on the team. Prior to NabeWise, Diana co-founded a property management software company and was a financial analyst at UBPbank.com. Today, when not hustling for NabeWise, Diana takes photographs, drinks coffee, and is an 85 Broads New York board member focused on entrepreneurship.

Born in Odessa (Ukraine, not Texas!) and raised in NYC, Diana has explored neighborhoods throughout 4 continents, 21 countries, and 66 cities (but who’s counting?), and loves returning to her home base in Hell's Kitchen. Ask her about her favorite neighborhood and she'll tell you all about the West Village in New York, though Brooklyn Heights is not too far behind.

Zack

Zack Walker

Director of Content and Cartography

A writer and musician hailing from Colorado, Zack leads our content team and also maps new neighborhood frontiers soon to be appearing on our site. When this mega multi-tasker isn’t crafting the wittiest sentences around or acting as resident Lewis/Clark/Sacagawea all in one, Zack plays drums, teaches others how to keep the beat, skateboards, photographs the city, and absorbs stimulating factoids.

Zack’s spent time in Seattle and his favorite nabe there is Fremont. Now a full blown New Yorker, Zack likes to hang out in Fort Greene, Williamsburg, and DUMBO.

Rebecca admires Superman. Like him, she too walks into phone booths on the regular, hoping that when she emerges she'll possess superpowers. So far, she has yet to acquire the ability to fly, but she at least exits the booth wearing a cape. Before transforming into NabeWise's content editor, Rebecca has provided written and edited content for various publications, both online and in print, including New Orleans non-profit Stay Local!

Having lived on the West Coast and the East Coast, Rebecca now calls the Gulf Coast home. She lives in New Orleans in a bright little nabe called Fauborg Marigny, and digs all its sights, sounds, and (nearly all) its smells.

  • Luke Larsen

Luke Larsen Luke Larsen is a freelance writer, music fanatic, and iOS game enthusiast hailing from the great Northwest. Although he was born and raised in Portland OR, he still tends to find himself surprised at just how great of a city he lives in. You can usually find him typing away at some random coffee shop, trying a a beer at some new local microbrewery, or even unloading some quarters down at Ground Kontrol — Portland’s finest vintage barcade.

  • Christine Souder

Christine Souder Brimming with Southern sass and class, this Tennessee native has found her true home in colorful Colorado. After receiving her film degree at CU Boulder, Christine headed for city life in Denver. She brings home the bacon by working as a freelance video editor.

  • Emily Friedman

Emily Friedman Ideally, Emily would be shredding gnar on her skis in Portillo before returning home to a meal cooked by the Barefoot Contessa. Until then, she’s happy to wander the streets of Fairfield County and explore all the suburbs can offer: artsy flicks, quality shopping, and nature trails galore (although don’t get her started on the mosquitoes). Currently, she divides her time between school and binging on ice cream while watching Millionaire Matchmaker, although she tries to go out for sunlight on occasion.

  • Niki Gatewood

Niki GatewoodDespite a raging case of wanderlust, Niki has always been compelled to return to her hometown in Colorado. After studying Art History and Drawing at Metropolitan State College of Denver she moved to Hawai'i for three years and returned when her desire to enjoy the cultural aspects of Denver finally won out against beach time. She enjoys spending her time off playing with her two dogs and reading trashy romance novels.

  • Marianne Lane

Marianne LaneAlthough a native Ohioan, Marianne has made her home in Chicago for the last five years. She recently completed a degree in Creative Writing and Art History at DePaul University in Chicago and has yet to find a good reason to abandon the bustling Midwestern city. When she’s not slanging coffee drinks you can find her riding her bike along the Lakeshore Path, reading in her neighborhood coffee shop or bouncing around to various festivals.

  • Anna Yakovleva

Anna YakovlevaA graduate student and Biology researcher in Washington, DC, Anna has spent countless hours exploring the area for ideal coffee/cupcake shop study spaces. These explorations inspired her to seek out bartending gigs in particularly interesting DC nabes to assist in financing her education and getting to know the DC residents a little bit better. Besides exploring DC, Anna’s interests include cooking, drinking wine, and learning Spanish. Anna’s short term goal is to finish school (finally!!) and move to the west coast.

  • Ellen Freeman

Ellen FreemanComing from a waterlogged Portland native family, Ellen couldn’t resist the call of the Northwest after spending four years in the East studying Comparative Literature at Haverford College. After moving home, she started teaching yoga in addition to freelance writing at coffeeshops, because one stereotype wasn’t enough. When she’s not continuing to put off starting ‘real life’ by traveling, she enjoys trying to learn how to use her camera’s light meter, riding a bike with no hands, and french-braiding other people’s hair.

  • Chloe Numbers

Chloe NumbersWhen she isn't riding moose in the Canadian Wilderness while pursuing an education in Film Studies and Theatre at the University of British Columbia, Chloe loves dashing around her home city of San Francisco in her green Volkswagen Beetle with her camera around her neck. She hopes to eventually support herself making movies, either in front of the camera as an actress or behind it as a Music Supervisor. In her free time, she enjoys singing, exploring the city and surrounding nature, and the elusive pursuit of being able to play in the sun without getting burned.
