East Elmhurst lies in the northwest corner of the borough of Queens. Not currently know as celebrity haven, East Elmhurst does have a star-studded history. During the 1950s and 1960's East Elmhurst was home to many cultural legends including Dizzy Gillespie, Langston Hughes, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, and Willie Mays.

Oddly, East Elmhurst isn’t exactly east of Elmmhurst. Timeout NY called East ElmhurstNew York’s “second China Town,” with lots of delicious and authentic food options. There’s also a large Latin populations here and it’s pretty much dominated by moderate-income families. Louis Armstrong (there’s a school named after him) and Ella Fitzgerald are among the famous musicians who lived here in the 50s and 60s, and many important African-American civil rights leaders, like Malcolm X, and professional athletes, Williie Mayes and Jackie Robinson, called it home. It’s certainly not as hopping as it once was…
