What does this Chicago ranking actually measure?
Official Chicago community areas ranked as if a nearby school rating and a calmer block matter more than bars. The rating is not your assigned campus. This is not the best place in the country to raise a child.
Why is North Center #1?
North Center is #1 because nearby schools score 90 here vs 100 in Lincoln Park — and that axis is the loudest weight on this list. Lincoln Park is the one to open if you want the lower ACS median.
How is this different from the walkable list?
The walkable list cares about the shop and the bus. This one cares about the school rating first. A dense strip can win walkable and lose here. That is the point.
Why isn't West Town on this list?
West Town is in the Chicago set and still sits outside the top 10. Schools 53, safety 26. It has more of the night, and this list barely pays for the night. Not a judgment of who lives there.
Can I compare a Chicago score to another city?
No. Hyde Park in Austin is not Hyde Park in Chicago. A 72 here is a rank inside this city’s official community areas, not a grade you can carry across a state line.
