Western Addition

by Nabewise

Infomation

Sitting between the Haight-Ashbury and Japantown, this nabe is as replete with historic Victorians—it was one of the few parts of the city that survived the fires that followed the 1906 earthquake. Established as an addition of the city west of Van Ness Avenue, the Western Addition was once the epicenter of San Francisco's jazz scene. Today, the Western Addition continues to be a popular destination for food and nightlife in the city.

Cheaper price for great surrounding nabes

Western Addition’s central location is pretty convenient for getting around the city. I do wish that there were more bars and restaurants on and around Divisadero. It does have a reputation for “ghetto” nightlife, but if you know the right joints to hit, you can have a great time. I recommend Fly Bar if looking for a great Happy Hour or mellow spot for wine and beer. It blends with Alamo Square andNOPA, and thus has experienced a lot of gentrification.
