Most of Sand Point, and the peninsula it sits on, is given over to the stunning Warren G. Magnuson Park. The rest of the nabe is taken over by offices of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and other large business ventures. Accordingly, there is a sharp lack of housing in Sand Point, but it does border some of Seattle's nicest nabes, such as Windermere. Dominated by one of Seattle's finest parks
Sand Point is not a place you would want to call home, unless you work for the government and are married to your work, as there is next to no housing in this nabe. What you will find in this nabe, however, is the amazing Warren G. Magnuson Park, a wonderful theatre with an outdoor amphitheater, and other sports complexes. This nabe houses the headquarters of a couple large government organizations, includingNOAA, the Seattle Conservation Corps, and EarthCorps. The park is huge and beautiful, and is quite different from most Seattle parks as it is mostly open fields and wetlands, as opposed to heavily wooded. The park also features an interesting art installation made from the diving fins of decommissioned submarines. Sand Point is an excellent nabe for a day trip or a place to get a good run or bike ride in.

A nice spot for a mid-afternoon date
The park is the main draw here. Beyond some public housing, there is no where to plant your roots in Sand Point, so this nabe is mostly filled with employees of the government agencies, and people like me who come here to get some sunshine, and launch their boats into Lake Washington. I also really enjoy seeing plays at the outdoor amphitheater at Thistle Theater. This park is large enough and has enough coastline that it is easy to get a stretch of it to yourself, and have a nice picnic with a loved one. The park is one of Seattle’s best, and it is rarely crowded.
