Most walkable neighborhoods in San Diego

Where a grocery run is realistic on foot — or at least with fewer car trips. Official San Diego community planning areas, counted inside 800 meters.

We count groceries, cafes, parks, and transit stops inside 800 meters of each official community planning area. It is an errand map, not a Walk Score license, and not a vibe contest. Rankings stay inside San Diego.

University

$3K ACS median rent

UTC and University City are the searches. UCSD sits in this plan, not in the coast village. The official name is University. Median age is 31.7, so this is not a dorm census. Bachelor's share is 76% and rent is $2,728. Cafes are 51 and bars are 3. Property Part I is 22.3 per 1,000 — the malls and the offices write a lot of that. The park count is canyon and campus pieces, not a shop on every block. Violent is 1.5.

Common questions

Same list, said in questions. The numbers are in the table.

What does this San Diego ranking actually measure?

Who can do more of a week on foot. We count mapped groceries, cafes, parks, and transit inside 800 meters — an errand map, not a Walk Score license.

Why is University #1?

University wins the errand count — walk 100 vs 92 in Downtown. Groceries within 800 meters: 21 vs 36.

How is this different from the family list?

The family list pays for nearby schools and a quieter map. This one pays for the grocery and the transit stop. A lawn with a long drive can win families and lose here.

Why isn't Kensington on this list?

Kensington is official and still off this top 10. Walk 0 — groceries 4, transit 18 inside 800 meters. A bigger yard can lose to a shorter shop.

Can I compare a San Diego score to another city?

No. Hyde Park in Austin is not Hyde Park in Chicago. A 72 here is a rank inside this city’s official community planning areas, not a grade you can carry across a state line.

What does rent mean on this list?

ACS median gross rent among these 10 areas runs $1,773 to $3,374. Five-year survey, studios through large apartments mixed together — not a listing you can message tonight.

Everyone sees this order so the list is arguable. Set your own weights · Method.
