If you are the kind of person that likes to buy things, then I suppose WS would be your kind of place. There is a strange mix of old businesses and newer chains. There are also prostitutes, but they are becoming harder to spot. Though that could just be my aging eyes.Paul N
I know someone who got the cutest puppy ever at a store on East Tremont in Westchester Square…that’s what I remember the most! Other than that I heard on the news that the neighborhood is getting kind of bad but the community is banding together to fight crime. It sounds like a good idea… Westchester Square is nice, convenient, and has a lot to offer in terms of shopping and dining. I’d hate to see it go to wste.Josie M
Westchester Village, known by most Bronxites as Westchester Square, is a concentrated neighborhood in the Southeast Bronx. It is a major transportation hub, with bus connections to nearly every part of the Bronx, and the 6 train to Manhattan. A retail district along the square boasts several small businesses, including video game shops, beauty salons, and restaurants. The neighborhood is always brimming with activity, except on Sundays, when many of the businesses close early (or don’t open at all).
A walk or bus ride up Williamsbridge Road leads to Italian and Asian fare, while a walk or bus ride up Eastchester Road leads to a host of hospitals, and the rare sight of a Starbucks in the Bronx.
As for living there, Westchester Square (as I’m accustomed to calling it) has a few modest homes, and lots of cheap, good apartments. It’s a bit loud, with business activity and the frequent roar of bus engines, but it is still a pretty decent place in which to live.
A few times a year, art fairs and other festivals are held right at the 6 train station… come around every once in a while!Amelia Z
When you come to Westchester you will feel you have finally made it in life. With beautiful homes, excelent schools, and the nicest people in the state. This town consist of affluent people who take the most pride in keeping there town safe and clean. You will love it here!DK
