Infomation

Owing to the recent construction of the new Yankee Stadium, Highbridge's profile is rapidly increasing. The Gateway Center, a large shopping complex located nearby, is a pivotal destination for the area–as are the recently-constructed parklands. Housing here is almost entirely apartment buildings, and transit is a breeze: Highbridge is served by the 4, B, and D trains.

One thing that I will never forget about highbridge is what happened this one time where I was lost after a yankee game and a woman out of no where asked me if I needed help and then walked me to the D train. I think that lady was crazy to be honest.Alex C.

I sometimes wonder whether it would be a great thing or a terrible thing to live so close to Yankee Stadium. On one hand it must be great; it’s yankee stadium, after all. On the other hand, the noise and construction would make living in the area pretty unbearable.Paul N.

Highbridge, once a thriving community on cliffs overlooking the Harlem River, was split in two by the construction of the Cross Bronx Expressway. Rock outcroppings, and apartment buildings teetering atop them are a common sight as a result. The neighborhood takes its name from the beautiful aqueduct constructed over theHarlem, to carry water to the dry Manhattan in 1848. The bridge is now closed to the public, but remains a beautiful sight for those interested in scenery.

Highbridge itself is an average Bronx neighborhood, with its crime, but Highbridge has a strong and powerful community voice. The neighborhood has its own newspaper, the Highbridge Horizon, and its residents can be seen frequently on the news advocating social justice and fighting to mitigate community problems.

There are restaurants and bars, and many bodegas. Travel to the new Gateway center a bit further south for shopping. Apartments are king here, and rents are quite cheap. It’s a good neighborhood for a family just starting out.
