Named after the British Kew Botanic Gardens, the triangular community of Kew Gardens was designed around its namesake park. At one time, Kew Gardens locals called Charlie Chaplin their neighbor. Though the community of Kew Gardens is welcoming in new rental buildings and new stores, the nabe retains its small town charm. If you want to visit the big city, 42nd street is only a half hour train ride away.

Diverse and Quiet
It takes about 30 minutes on the E or F train, which is substantial, but worth it for anyone looking for a small town vibe and quiet nights in New York City. Surrounded by leafy Forest Park, many elegant homes from the 1920s still line the residential streets. The local cuisine reflects the ethnic diversity, with Russian, Italian, Indian, Pakistani and Uzbek dining available, to name just a few. There are also many local markets that cater to religious and cultural food needs, particularly the the Jewish and Muslim populations. Kew Gardens is economically diverse as well. Most recently young professionals and Manhattanities have moved in seeking a greener, park-like atmosphere and snatching up the spacious apartments.Nina B.
