Wynnewood is a small nabe off of R.L. Thornton Freeway (35E). This nabe was built in the 1940’s as a self-sufficient suburb centered around a shopping center. While other developments of that time focused on mass-producing cookie-cutter homes, Wynnewood focused on building sturdy homes in a variety of styles. Since then, some areas of this nabe have turned into subsidized housing, attracting an eclectic mix of residents. Has potential
Wynnewood is a diverse nabe and something of a study in urban planning. The entire neighborhood is centered around a main shopping center, which unfortunately has seen better days. What used to include a movie theater, grocery stores, and a hotel is now a mediocre shopping center with chain stores such as Ross, the Dollar Tree, and Taco Bell. However, the Village is sufficient – if not a little drab – for nearby residents’ basic needs.
Wynnewood is quite diverse in its population. People of all ages and backgrounds live here happily, even if their income isn’t the highest. Housing ranges from brick apartment buildings to quaint bungalows, while North Wynnewood consists of larger, newer houses.
If Wynnewood can restore its shopping center to what it once was (or make it even better, for that matter), it could be a very nice neighborhood. For now, though, it is just another working class nabe.

Yep, it's Oak Cliff.
Wynnewood fits the stereotype of Oak Cliff. The North Dallas folk get the heebie jeebies when thinking of venturing down to these parts. Really, they’re just too comfortable in their nice suburban lifestyle to make it down here.
Yes, Wynnewood is a little rough around the edges. But it’s not the worst part of Dallas. You’d be surprised at the friendly little brick homes that are found in this nabe. The residents also do a nice job of keeping their homes and yards clean and pretty.
It’s also home to a lot of gays and older people. The gays have moved here b/c it’s close to downtown and the ever so chic Bishop Arts District. The old people are here because they have probably lived there for a while. And why move when you are happy where you are?
Cheapo houses that are still nice
Less safe and more crime than north dallas. A little far out from the major attractions of dallas.
